Wash it in pretty much the same way you would wash your regular bed linens.
The difference is that a duvet takes up quite a bit of space in the machine, so in a standard washing machine, wash one duvet at a time. It’s perfectly fine to launder it with pillowcases, of course. (Depending on your washing machine, you may be able to wash two duvets together.)
Since it's so easy to handle and you don’t need to fuss with duvet covers, you can break your usual washing routine. Normally, you might wash all your bed linens at once to consolidate the hassle. A tip is to break your usual washing pattern and avoid gathering a laundry mountain. Wash your Folkness duvets individually when needed instead. You don’t need to make the bed – it’s already made!
Another tip to avoid washing your Folkness duvets as often is to flip them after some use. Bed sheets and pillowcases need to be laundered more frequently than the duvet, as you come into contact with them differently, and they collect more dirt, liquids, etc.
Our Folkness duvets can withstand 60 degrees, so do so when needed. However, we recommend washing at lower temperatures since the difference between, say, 40 and 60 degrees is not as significant as you might think. Today’s washing machines and detergents do nearly the same job anyway. However, to get rid of dust mites, 60 degrees is required.
Do not use fabric softener. Preferably, use liquid detergent, but do not overdose. Choose a detergent that is gentle and doesn’t contain bleach.
The fastest way is with a tumble dryer. But hanging it up to air dry works just as well! And it’s quick – wash it in the morning or early afternoon, hang it up, and it’ll be dry by evening. Of course, hanging it to dry is better for both the environment and your wallet. Both methods work fine.
In a standard-sized tumble dryer, one Folkness duvet works best for the best results.
Depending on how efficient your dryer is, you might find that it’s not 100% dry after the cycle (just like with regular duvet covers). If your dryer can dry the Folkness duvet fully, you can ignore the following options.
Option 1: Take it out, give it a bit of a shake, and run it for a little longer – try 20 minutes first.
Option 2: Let it air-dry the rest of the way if you’re not going to bed right away.
Do NOT use tennis balls or anything similar.
We believe it’s important that neither the feel nor the look of our duvets differ too much from what you're used to. Most people prefer sleeping against natural materials rather than polyester. Other so-called "2-in-1" duvets often have only a polyester (microfiber) outer fabric, which we see as just an ordinary fiber duvet insert—regardless of its color or design. As far as we know, using polyester duvet covers isn’t very common.
That’s why our duvets are wrapped in a fantastic 100% organic cotton percale fabric. With a 200 thread count, the cotton is both GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified. The filling is also Oeko-Tex certified, ensuring that it contains no harmful chemicals.
We do use microfiber in our duvets, but only to keep the filling in place—you’ll never come into direct contact with it.
Our fabric comes from Portugal, and the entire duvet is carefully made in Estonia with a focus on both quality and sustainability.
You might not think so, but plenty of people do. And it’s not just about being lazy - it’s because it really can be a hassle, heavy, or challenging, especially for those with other limitations. This is a great relief for anyone who values a simpler daily routine.
Putting on a duvet cover after washing isn’t too bad - if only you didn’t have to fix it again every morning. With Folkness, everything stays perfectly in place, always. A nice bonus with that wow feeling every single day.
Many people also looks for duvet covers with corner openings to make bed-making easier - but with Folkness, that’s something you’ll never have to worry about.
At first glance, you might think there’s no difference at all. But we’d say the difference is significant. A regular duvet isn’t built to function on its own.. It’s not particularly stylish either, with visible channel seams holding the filling in place, often bulky and less refined edges. The outer fabric isn’t typically made to be directly next to your skin. That’s why it usually requires a duvet cover.
The Folkness duvet is a combination of a duvet and a duvet cover. It’s designed with thoughtful adjustments to ensure smooth handling while maintaining the look and feel of a traditional duvet cover. For instance, everything is sewn together - no loose parts - so the duvet stays perfectly in place, with no empty corners or edges slipping out.
Yes, absolutely! With Folkness, you don’t have to think about duvet covers at all, because you’ll never have to wrestle with putting one on or taking it off again. How great is that?
Not at all – quite the opposite! You just pop it in the washing machine, let it dry, and it’s good to go. No fuss with duvet covers. A nice bonus is that everything gets clean and fresh. Many people are great at washing their duvets regularly, but we also know that a lot of people never do it.
Yes, that's a question we asked ourselves too. You might want to change the look in the bedroom sometimes. So, we did a thorough survey on the topic.
It turns out that it’s more or less a non-issue. Often, people have a set of duvet covers/pillowcases they love, maybe they’ve invested in higher-quality products that they definitely want to keep using. Then, they don’t want to pull out the extra set from the closet or, most commonly, the "old" bedding. Instead, they plan their laundry so that they can use their favorite set again.
When we think about it ourselves, that actually makes sense.
A good tip to change up the feel of your bedroom is to buy a blanket or change out a pillow or two every now and then - it really does a lot for the overall look.
BUT, if it's crucial to switch bedding every time you wash, we recommend having two sets of Folkness duvets at home. 🙂
We often get asked about the lifespan of the Folkness duvets. It’s understandable, especially for a new product that combines two items, that customers might wonder about it.
Since people handle their bedding differently, it’s hard to give an exact number of years. Some wash once a week, others once every three weeks, and so on. We’ve chosen to follow the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association’s recommendation on how often bedding should be washed. Their recommendation is to aim for washing every two weeks. However, we believe the most common interval is somewhere between two to three weeks, and based on that, we say our duvets are designed to last for five years.
They will most likely last longer than that or be fine with more frequent washing if you prefer. They’re made for regular use and frequent washing, and we’ve chosen a durable, fine percale fabric that holds up well over time.
Is that a reasonable lifespan? We’d say yes. But if you compare it to regular bedding, you might want to consider the lifespan of the bedding you use today, and unfortunately, we can’t answer that. We don’t see that question being asked that often when it comes to regular bedding.
Normally, you wash pillowcases and duvet covers, not the duvet itself. We dare to say that the duvet is probably washed only once a year in most homes. If you wash it twice, you're already 100% better than the majority (based on our very general speculation).
One of the big advantages of Folkness duvets is that the whole product is washed every time. Since the duvet and cover are one product, you're getting two things done at once.
Come experience the total freshness - it's unbeatable!
That being said, we don’t want to encourage unnecessary washing. The Folkness duvet should be washed when needed; feel free to flip it over and use it a bit longer instead of washing it too often.
We recommend breaking the usual washing routine and avoiding over-washing. We often end up with piles of laundry. Does everything really need to be washed on a set schedule? The most important thing is to wash the fitted sheets and pillowcases more frequently. But maybe not the whole family's duvets as often. Wash the Folkness duvets when needed. Your duvet might need washing more frequently than your partner's, for example, due to various reasons.
Here's the translation:
We like the slightly used, wrinkled look – but if you’re someone who usually irons your bedding, go ahead! Just make sure to use the lowest setting on the iron. Ironing the duvet can flatten it and reduce the fluffiness.
Otherwise, we recommend using a steamer – works great!
Because that would take away some of the greatness of the Folkness duvet. It wouldn’t be as easy to handle, and simplicity is what we focus on.
Folkness duvets are designed to be washed and dried as smoothly and quickly as possible.
That said, our duvets are still quite fluffy and wonderful, but if you’re switching from a large, heavy down duvet, there will naturally be a difference.
We’re starting with a medium warmth and are constantly working on developing more variations.
We believe percale is the ideal fabric for our Folkness duvets because it combines comfort, beauty, and durability. Known for its "crisp" feel, percale also offers a cool sensation, making it perfect for regulating temperature - cool when it’s warm and cozy when it's cold.
Not only does it feel fresh and airy against the skin, but it also improves with use, becoming softer and more durable over time. We chose percale for its sustainable qualities, ensuring a great balance between comfort and longevity. It’s the perfect fabric for duvets that are designed to be washed and used frequently, making it the ultimate choice for functionality and comfort.
We know that when it comes to textile products, the biggest environmental impact occurs during the production of the product, i.e., until it reaches the end consumer. That’s where we’ve tried to make the best choices we can.
We’ve chosen to use GOTS certified outer fabric, Oeko-Tex 100 Class 1 certified outer fabric, filling, and inner fabric.
The production takes place in a Swan-labeled facility.
How we, as consumers, treat the product in everyday life doesn’t have as much of an impact as the production, but it’s of course still important!
There are many who wash too often, and some only wash when it’s absolutely necessary. We’re aware that our duvets require more washing machine and tumble dryer cycles compared to regular duvet covers. But we’d like to challenge the usual way we tend to wash, for example:
– Do you have to wash all bedding in the household at the same time? Wash the Folkness duvets that actually need to be washed.
– Do all duvets need to be washed at the same interval? Perhaps it’s enough to wash yours, and not the kids' this week, etc.
– It’s more important to wash bed sheets and pillowcases more frequently, since you’re lying on/against them.
– Try flipping your duvet and use it a little longer instead of falling into the “must wash everything on the same day” mindset.
– How modern is your washing machine? This has a significant impact on environmental effects. A modern machine is definitely better for the environment.
– Don’t use higher temperatures than necessary. Feel free to use the eco-program.
If you know you’ve chosen products that have been made in a good way, and haven’t been transported too far, you’ve done more for the environment than if you’ve chosen products made less responsibly and then wash and care for them in an environmentally friendly way. Washing less doesn’t automatically equate to an environmentally conscious approach. The most important step is a conscious choice when purchasing the product.
